Designed by a practitioner.
Nick Shevelyov spent 14 years as the Chief Security Officer defending Silicon Valley Bank — the bank of the global innovation economy. He sat across from regulators, audit committees, and boards of directors, translating technical vulnerability data into language that drove real business decisions.
After years of stitching together spreadsheets, scanner exports, and custom scripts to produce board-ready risk reports, he set out to build the platform he always wished existed — one that does the translation automatically, precisely, and at scale.
Nick now advises security leaders through vcso.ai and channels that experience directly into every feature of Theodolite.
Why the name?
Precision is in our name — literally.
A theodolite is a precision instrument surveyors use to measure angles with extreme accuracy. For centuries, it has been the tool professionals reach for when imprecision is not an option — when you need to know exactly where you stand.
We built Theodolite to bring that same precision to measuring cyber risk. Not approximations. Not severity scores that mean different things to different people. Exact, quantified, defensible measurements that tell you where your exposure is and what it costs.
